Introduction When the sleek silver spaceship landed, the people of Laedyn initially believe that the Gods had chosen to pay them a visit. They were wrong. The scaly, green creatures that slithered down the plankway from that mysterious vessel did not bear blessings. Instead, they brought crackling energy chains, flesh disintegrating explosives, and big vicious laser rifles. The citizens of Laedyn dispatched a welcoming crew to greet the Gods from the stars. An array of gifts was laid at their feet. When the welcoming crew did not return from their diplomatic envoy, another was sent to figure what exactly happened. When that crew did not return, the people began to panic. At that instant, dozen more of the space vessels landed, proceeding to enslave the hapless humans and wipe out any hint of armed resistance. After Laedyn, the citizens of neighboring towns were also rounded up. Over night, thousands of primitive humans found themselves locked into impenetrable cages, crowded into torturous mining crews, or serving their new evil overlords. The terror and chaos spread across the land. The sky was filled with the space vessels, bringing darkness to the entire human race. (Adding to this unfortunate reality was the mere fact that not but three days before the vessels began to arrive, one young human had invented a way to use steam to power engines. Another individual had developed the basic ideas to develop a firearm. Furthermore, another astute fellow discovered that their world was not the center of the universe. Talk about timing.) The primitive humans are now scattered across their homeland, mostly concentrated around rich mineral deposits which the scaly space beasts are forcing them to mine and process. Day by day, many die. Day by day, the space vessels bring in more humans from across their planet to work their precious resource. In all of the chaos and mind numbing terror, however, the scaly beasts neglected to take account of small bands of humans, slowly making their way down the coastlines from the north to the fertile lands of Laedyn and beyond. It was their annual raiding season, and soon, the beasts would encounter a taste of prowess and physical ability never before seen. The barbarians were coming. |
