Adventure Is your barbarian ready to prove himself a legend among warriors? Barbarians Versus is different than other roleplaying games. Action is broken down into scenes where each barbarian attempts to outperform the other barbarians. The greatest feats receive a coin reward, helping the barbarian along toward their personal quest to become heroes, wealthy, or both. Barbarians who fail receive nothing. Breaking It Down Step One. The Narration First, the Narrator will have a brief but fitting description of what brought the barbarians to the scene. The Narrator can feel free to expound eloquently about each barbarian's heroic surge toward legend, or she might simply explain why the barbarians are in the middle of whatever particular trouble that has occurred. The Narrator gets to create the troubling scene, usually a situation which will require the barbarians to use all of their abilities to survive and solve. Scenes are rated in coins. A 1 coin scene is very easy to solve and overcome. A 5 coin scene requires that the barbarian use multiple attributes and think creatively to overcome the challenges. The Narrator will find assistance for creating each challenging scene in the next chapter. Step Two. Barbarians Act Now, it is the barbarians' turn. A barbarian may decide to act or watch. A barbarian that watches gets no coins and is considered a mere footnote on the epic ass of other barbarians. A barbarian that decides to act automatically gets 1 coin just by doing something. Next, going clockwise (or however the group decides), each player describes what his or her barbarian is going to do to solve the scene. Each time the barbarian does something heroic or amazing, the player must roll to find out if the action was successful or dismally inadequate. How to Roll Figuring out whether or not your barbarian succeeded is easy as banging rocks -- banging on rocks, sorry. First, roll the 2 ten-sided dice. Remember to count a roll of "0" as zero. Add the two rolls together. Next, add in the appropriate attribute for the action in question. Talk to the Narrator if you have questions about which attribute is appropriate. Next, add in any bonuses you can think of. A variety of modifiers are listed later in this chapter that are helpful. Your total, counting dice roll, attribute, and modifiers, is called the Result. If your Result is equal to or greater than the Action Difficulty, you have succeeded! The Sequence If all of your barbarian's actions are successful, the scene is considered resolve. Your barbarian receives a number of coins equal to the difficulty of the scene. However, other barbarians may attempt to resolve the scene anyway. The winner is based on the barbarian who achieves the most coins while solving the scene. Extra Bonuses For every 10 points your Outcome exceeds the Action Difficulty, you receive a bonus coin. |
